SHADOW FOR THE LETTERS

HOW TO MAKE SHADOW FOR THE LETTERS.

Today, we'll learn the shadows for the letters. You just need to remember the basics we were taught in school. The shadow is casted opposite to source of light with an opaque object in between. Okay too much of science.
Lets see how is it done.
The shadow basically is either on the right or in left.
I have used red color just to make the shadow visible.
To make the letters look real any shades of grey will make it look better. Also you can get creative with the shadows as you grow ahead.

LETTER USING A REGULAR PEN AND A BRUSH PEN

HOW TO LETTER USING A REGULAR PEN AND BRUSH PEN

As the title explains, this blog is about how a beginner can actually start lettering.
There are some basic steps a beginner can follow and later as you grow you can change your ways of lettering or can even start with your own patterns and ways.

1) USING a gel pen/sketch pen/fine liner
Faux calligraphy makes your letters look similar to that of brush calligraphy/lettering. Follow the steps given below.
*Also here remember that you have to 'thicken the down strokes' and keep the upstrokes as it is.

2) USING BRUSH PEN
Brush pen is commonly used for lettering. Hold the pen in the way it is comfortable for you but avoid using the pen perpendicular to the paper. Make sure you hold it a certain angle to avoid any damage to the tip.
I first used to use it perpendicular to the paper which really ruined my tip and now if I letter with that pen, it draws a crooked line.
Follow the tips and the guides I made to get a better outcome.
This is all for today's blog. Tell me in the comments below if you have some other tips and also what do you want in my next blog.

Beginner's kit for Hand Lettering.

Hand lettering is my most favorite thing to do currently. I have been developing this since a few months now and tried most of the ways i can letter the words.
Hand lettering is basically writing things creatively. And its not like you only require the best quality pens to get the best results. It all depends on your imagination and creativity. Your grip over the pen or which pen suits you the best also matters.
Though sometimes it is necessary to go for better brands in terms of longevity of the product you are using and many more.
The very basic kit for Hand lettering won't cost you much.
The materials I used a beginner were:

1) PAPERS, PENCILS, RULER, ERASER
These are the most needed things in any of the art forms.
For hand lettering various measurements, placements, etc of each letter and the word is important for a better outcome.
As a beginner it is necessary to start with a Ruled Paper, pencils and erasers. This helps to understand the proper writing, size of the letters, if there are any mistakes you can erase and redo instead of tearing and wasting a paper if you directly start with pens.

2)SKETCH PENS
We all have been using sketch pens since our childhood for all sort of art. They prove to be pretty amazing for hand lettering beginners. Now there are two kinds of sketch pens, normal ones and the water color pens. You can merge different colors using the water color pens.
I used the regular 'Faber-Castell' Connector pen set and the water color pens were 'Doms' Sketch max water color pens.

3)BRUSH PENS
As the name suggests, brush pens are the kind of pens that have the tip of a brush. These pens have different texture then the regular pens also the writing has some difference. Normally they are available in the basic 12-24 colors and even more. Even these are water color pens which helps you to merge 2 or more colors. I used the 'Camlin Kokoyu' brush pens which worked too well for me. It isn't too costly and also offers a good quality and smooth writing.

4) FINE LINER PEN
These are the pens with a very fine thin tip. These are generally used for borders and the other details in lettering but one can also write with these pens. 'Luxor Graphic' pen works well for me. Also there are some regular fine liners available in the shops and doesn't cost much. You can also use Sakura Pigma Micron pens if you wish to spend a little more.
5) REGULAR GEL PENS OR BALL POINT PENS
The pens we normally use to write our assignments, notes, etc can also be used for lettering. I myself started the journey of lettering with a gel pen I used for my daily purpose.

This is all you need in your beginner's kit to help you with the basics of Hand lettering.
Hope this helps you beginners. comment below if have some addition to this topic or any suggestions for my next blog.
